This style of rug is made using a Handwoven Soumak method. This is where yarn is threaded (rather than knotted) through the warp to create the rug, rather than individual knots. This creates a different appearance than knotted rugs, and we chose the process based on its design. Soumak is the traditional pattern created by braiding the yarn.
